Final settlement checklist: what your employer must pay when you leave

Signing a clearance or settlement form usually means you accept the amount as final. Checking it first takes ten minutes and can save you thousands of dirhams. Use this list together with the final settlement calculator.

1. Your last working day

Confirm the exact date your contract ends. It decides your total service, unpaid salary days and the 14-day payment deadline.

2. Gratuity

If you completed at least one year, check that gratuity is calculated on your basic salary, using 21 days per year for the first five years and 30 days after, including part years. Ask for the number of service days they used.

3. Unused annual leave

Every unused day should be paid at basic salary ÷ 30, including leave earned in your final, incomplete year. Ask for your leave balance in writing.

4. Salary for the final month

Days you worked in the last month must be paid in full, usually at total salary ÷ 30 per day, including allowances.

5. Notice period

The notice period is between 30 and 90 days as agreed in your contract (Article 43). If your employer asks you to stop working immediately, they owe your wage for the notice period. If you leave without serving notice, the employer may claim the same from you.

6. Other contractual benefits

Check your offer letter for a return air ticket, end-of-year bonus, commission or other benefits that are still due. The employer is also responsible for the cost of your repatriation ticket if you leave the country, unless you join a new employer.

7. Deductions

Only lawful deductions are allowed, such as recovering a salary advance. Ask for a list with amounts. Your employer cannot charge you for visa or recruitment costs under the law.

After you leave

Payment is due within 14 days. Your employer must also cancel your work permit, and you have a grace period to find a new job or leave the country. If your settlement is late or incomplete, start with a written request to HR, then file a complaint with MOHRE through the app or call 600 590000. Keep copies of your contract, payslips and the settlement breakdown.

Tip: save your result from the calculator as a PDF and attach it to your email to HR. A clear breakdown makes the conversation faster.
